found my sport

I don't follow the Olympics. We don't have NBC in our 2.5 channel selection. Every once in a while I'll see something that looks interesting on the net and maybe watch some highlights or an award ceremony. I cried during the award ceremony (I'm not even sure what event it was for, I thought it was ladies snowboarding...) so I don't do that anymore - USA wasn't even a medal winner! On a highlight real I saw the luge.
Now - when I dreamt in the past about being an athletic goddess I know I could be if I was in better shape and didn't like food so much, I always thought more along the line of downhill skiing. When I was able to hit the slopes periodically and fancied myself quite superb and decided the green slopes (with a blue mixed in now and then) were to my liking because of the vistas made available because of the swath of trees cut down to make room for a person to snow plow around a corner using roughly 200 feet of space (not because it was easier to ski....). I could imagine myself tucked and, with my head bent into the wind, crossing the finish line at record speed. Of course I probably looked more like an out of control idiot with ski poles flailing at my side as I tried to balance and figure out how to stop before careening into the chairlift line (same as a finish line, just made of people). I'm sure my classy stop of biting the edges of my skis into the fresh powder and spraying an impressive arch of snow through the air as I gently slid sideways into a show stopping finally looked more like falling on my butt in order to keep from sliding all the way to the lodge where I would have to take off the skis and WALK back to the line. But still, anytime I watched snippets of the games I could imagine myself there, I could feel my muscles responding to the turns and jumps.
The luge was never of any interest to me, until now. Maybe it's because I crossed that '40' line and I know that even though my body is amazingly strong and able, it's just not as agile as it once was. I found myself being drawn to a sport that was like sledding, but laying down! I can do both very well! No steering, just a little push to get the sled going, and lay back and enjoy the ride. I heard an announcer say something about one of the contestants having the needed weight, OK, I have that too! I'm not sure about the skin tight outfits, I suppose it helps with wind resistance and laying down does make my tummy look flatter, so as long as I don't have to get up, I'm in!

Eddie and I were just talking this week about what sport we would want to medal in at the Olympics.

The luge totally freaks me out. They go waaayyyy to fast! I love the aerials though. If I could do any winter sport, I think I'd pick that. It's so beautiful.

PS If you like your "backside view" you could do the skeleton. It's just like the luge but head first and on your belly. 90 miles an hour! like I said - yikes!
