busy weekend

This weekend was General Conference (A bi-annual world conference of the Church, held in April and October, where members gather for five two-hour sessions to listen to instruction from Church leaders. General conference is broadcast via satellite from the Conference Center at Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah.). It's a great opportunity to feast on the words of out prophet and other authorities for 4 hours on Sat (guys get 2 more hours with Priesthood session:-) and 4 hours on Sunday. We stay at home and watch on our computer. I have to say that I came away spiritually fed! What amazing talks. I was particularly moved by Elder Jeffery R. Holland's talk (Sunday afternoon), how can anyone listen to it and doubt? You can find them here if you missed any or are interested.

Elder Dallin H. Oaks' talk also seemed very poignant in view of what I've recently found out a friend went through in their youth. I have had a heavy heart because of the pain and abuse that is prevalent in our society. I recently went to a movie with a friend and saw a preview for "Precious". (You can view it here). I wept when I watched it in the theater. I can't make myself watch the movie, I just can't handle the pain of it all. I did make my kids watch the trailer though. I want them to be aware, to follow the spirit, to be able to extend a hand when it's so desperately needed. I feel like I could have done more good in my youth if I had only been more aware of people around me instead of living in my own selfish little bubble.

Along with feast on words we also feast of food. It's become a tradition. I think I undid about a month's worth of work in two days! I'm petrified to get on the scale. I'm doing a liquid fast today, and I plan on hitting the gym with vigor this week - Bill's taking me to Sybaris in 1 week!

Our ward also put on a Country Fair. There was lots of eating involved (I had purposefully doing a liquid fast on that day, but out of sympathy for Eve wanting to do the pudding contest, I relented and had a container of pudding fed to me by a blindfolded twin. She wasn't the one doing the eating because she had already won the pie eating contest and came in after Aurora (who won) in the donut eating contest.

I had more pictures, but I'm having a very hard time uploading pics today - so you're saved:-)

A pie eating contest? And donuts? And pudding!? Wow!! You deserve a diet break and I hope you throughly enjoyed your pudding.

We enjoyed conference too. I love that we can listen to it on the computer. It makes it so much easier to review and listen to talks we would otherwise miss.
