tipsy talkin'

I make this dessert one or two times a year. It's an amaretto almond pear cake. I need an ingredient that is not normally in a Mormon's year supply - that would be the amaretto. Every four years or so I have to go to the liqueur store and purchase it. (We used to have a van with all sorts of LDS bumper stickers, I always wondered what people thought of it in the parking lot...) Now before you call my bishop let me explain- baking vanilla is more concentrated in alcohol than the amaretto, so are most extracts, heck you're mouth wash and cough syrup probably are too. Also, when it's used in baking all the alcohol cooks out and only the wonderful amaretto taste is left over. I love my Marsh store down the street because the liquor is behind the cashiers, so I don't have to go into a liqueur store anymore!
I dropped the kids off at seminary and ran to the Devil's playground (aka WalMart) for a couple of items (yeah right, like you can leave there with one or two items...I think 'Guido' sits ready tackle anybody who even tried to leave with less than three things and forces them back in to buy more- we know this on a sub-conscious level, that's why we always buy more (speaking of 'buy more' does anyone watch Chuck?)). I went down the baking isle to get almond paste (for my cake...) and couldn't find it. Many stores only stock it during the holidays, so I thought that since Christmas music was being piped into the cavernous abyss that they might have some, but it seems like baking supplies consist of mostly boxed items we can just add egg and oil to and have a scrumptious delicacy. My little store where I can stock up on my liqueur carries two types of almond paste. What's my point? I don't know! - must be the liqueur talking! (great now I'm going to do one of those blog footsteps and have liqueur as a big word!)
Enoch is so used to Danni cuddling and squeezing and loving on him! I snapped a little too late and missed his smile!

You're braver than I am. I know that alcohol cooks out in the preparation of food, but I'm still too nervous to try it. I'm also too nervous to go buy it. Maybe one of these days I'll find the courage to make this beer battered fish taco recipe I've been dying to try. Have you ever eaten beer battered fish tacos? Oh my, they are heavenly.

Also, just had to mention that we here at our house love watching "Chuck." It's a kooky show, but we're hooked.

Um, Lindsay, did you read this post? Maybe you shouldn't try it.
Just kidding, Kristy. You make me laugh! Love the picture too.

We use wine to cook with and I've never been too worried about it. I think your cake sounds delicious, but was sad to see you didn't post the recipe! :)

Enoch and Danni are just the cutest of best friends.
