Divinely Designed Mother

There was a line in a talk at church today that caught my attention. I've heard, The Family: A Proclamation to the World dozens of times, but this caught my attention:
"By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children."
By divine design - (we'll cover the father's part of this in June:-) I thought about this line, I've never thought of my self as much of a nurturer. If a kid falls or cuts himself I tell them to suck it up and get over it, then put my 'green stuff' on it so it won't get infected. Harrison told me he couldn't get the vacuum working yesterday, I told him I knew he could and I expected it fixed and the dining room cleaned, then left (I did come home to a clean dining room and a fixed vacuum.). I wonder if I was born with a faulty wire somewhere? I have no patience with whining, excuses, or giving up. I see my children exhibiting those same dislikes when talking about friends or other situations. Am I flawing (Is that a word?) the next generation's designs? I have a friend who once said, "We get these spirits in a perfect state and we as parents just try not to screw them up to badly."
I do love being a mom! My children bring me more comfort and joy than I knew was possible. Happy Mother's Day to all you other moms who are struggling with , praying for, crying over, and loving their children by divine design!

I think there is a huge difference between coddling a child and nurturing a child. Most of the world confuses the two. In the experience with Harrison you nurtured in him the knowledge that he can fix a vacuum cleaner and clean a home. And that knowledge will serve him the next time something breaks and for the rest of his life.

You and Bill are probably the most nurturing parents I know. Keep it up.
