What's cookin'?

Having a large family can mean lots more work, or lots less, depending on how well I utilize the people!
Now that the kids are old enough to putter around the kitchen, which is usually where they are puttering and grazing, I thought it would be a good idea to make this a win/win situation. We have instituted a program where each child has a day to cook and clean the kitchen. From time to time they may need help in preparing a meal, but as time goes by they need me less and less. I take over on the weekend, just to get the kitchen back to where I like it. We've had meals of mashed potatoes, yes just the mashed potatoes. We've also had three and four course feasts, including desserts. I love the fact that the lucky girls who will marry my fine sons will get men who know their way around the kitchen (and laundry room, and vacuum, etc...). David loves to use my spices and herbs, his creativity has paid off more times than not! Harrison discovered 'cheese straws' and a -to die for omlette-. Tawny makes an exquizit white chocolate moose. Aurora has learned the fine art of steaming. Eve can put out a batch of fresh home-made tortillas that beg for honey and butter to drip off them while we try to stuff them in our mouths.
I think the thing I love most is not just the fact that they can cook, but that they are learning the joys of serving the family in one of the most important ways, feeding them!
