Eagle Project Completed!

Saturday we worked on Harrison's Eagle Projects for scouts.  The project:
Step 1 -Dig up native prarie grass from a lowlands area.
It was a little wet off and on to begin with.  But the day ended up being perfect - regardless of what the silly weather man said!
Tawny and Eve had a little 'women against nature' thing with this clump of grass.  They wanted no help from anyone!  They did it too ~ anyone else NOT surprised?OK - one of the guys overseeing the project lifted a clump I dug up and had to re-adjust carrying it because he thought it was lighter - I carried it so easily. He commented to Bill that I was 'hardy'. I guess I'm stronger than I look!

Step 2: dig holes in a former gravel pit large enough to plant the plugs of grass we dug up. Fortunately the bigger clumps had been broken up, so the holes at their largest were probably about 1.5 feet across. But digging in this 'dirt' was challenging! Thank heavens fresh muscle came along in the afternoon.

The end product:

I know it doesn't look as pretty as the beginning, Harrison said it will take about 4 years before this grass will really take hold and flourish.

Harrison did a great job of knowing what the project was about and where to dig and where to plant. It was a very long and exhausting day! We are all still sore and tired 24 hours later.

Now that this project is under his belt we just need to wrap up the loose ends and whip him until he crosses the 'Eagle' finish line! That may be more work than digging in the gravel....
