Many many thanks to the comments and suggestions! You have helped immensely. You have encouraged me to discuss, suggest, and implement changes in our home.

When Bill wasn't working and paintings weren't selling we applied for food stamps, that helped us survive and I am grateful for them! Once he started working the benefits were cut back, but I allowed them to continue. I really loved knowing that no matter what I could at least buy groceries. It's hard to admit to this, really hard, but I also know that sometimes help is needed. Our time is over (I hope:-).

I just made the cancellation call. We still have some food storage, and if I follow your suggestions and plan my menus around it and store's sales I think we can do it. Desserts will be hit the hardest, but that will make them even more special when they get made:-)

We ditched the high speed Internet, the YMCA, and netflix, all extras that really are luxuries.

We are turning down the heat at night and watching what gets left on more.

I need to find out how to make those rugs out of old clothes Lisa spoke of, maybe the library will have some books.

It's not going to be easy, but easy was never very fun for me, I enjoy rising to challenges!

Sometimes the Spirit Touches Us Through Our Weaknesses

by James Christensen

Christensen has been a favorite artist of mine for years. This piece has always touched me. I really do think that I am strengthened through my weaknesses. If we really dig in and work at it we can be completely debt free in 2 more years, house and all. I look forward to that like I look forward to a breath when being under water. It's been humbling to see many in my age bracket and younger so financially astute and frugal.

I have to remember that life does not revolve around nice homes, new cars, great vacations, brand name clothes, and eating at nice restaurants. If people are able to live that way and afford it - Good for them! ( Buy some art!!) My goals should be more focused towards the mansion being prepared for me elsewhere.

I have been thinking a lot about you and your frugality this past week. Then I re read this post...

Desserts? Yes, desserts fall into our "want" category. :) You'd think I would lose tons of weight, but sometimes pasta is soooo good it almost taste like dessert! :)

I hope your "belt tightening" gives you and your family what you need. You'll have to report on this progress too! (Speaking of progress, who weight loss posts lately?)
