Yesterday morning:
Tawny, "I have that Mayor's Youth Council [MYC] thingy tonight."
Me, "What time?"
Tawny, "I don't remember, I think I was supposed to RSVP."
Tawny, "I don't remember, I think I was supposed to RSVP."
Me, "Oh...."
Neither one of us thinks about it again....
Later I am going through the 56 messages on our phone starting at July 3rd (sorry for anybody who called and I didn't call back!!).
One message happens to be about the MYC thingy.
Tawny calls the number, then after hanging up says to me, "I have to be there at 5:00."
Me, "Should I be there for anything?"
Tawny, "Oh there's a swearing in at 7:00 or 7:30, I can't remember, you don't need to worry about it."
Me, "Oh...."
I go out and do some much needed gardening. Bill comes home and I tell him about Tawny's 'thingy', he thinks we should probably go, so I shower and throw on some clean(er) clothes.
Mayor Sharon McShurley stands and tells the City Council and audience that the youth she's about to swear in had to apply for the position by writing an essay. They then went through the 60 applicants and cut them down to 12 and did personal interviews with those to see who would fill the 5 empty seats.
I didn't even know Tawny applied. I remember vaguely her going for an interview for it and she came back pretty confident. Then it was out of mind until we got a letter stating she had made it a few months ago, I still had no idea what 'it' was all about.
I guess I should be happy my kids are self motivated on things like this, if it were up to me I would just have them home doing homework and getting good grades...

Wow, that's great. I'll keep my fingers crossed my girls are at least 1/2 as motivated as Tawny! Congrats mom on having such a great daughter!
Congrats, Tawny!
