Litter Bug

I happened to be out walking Clover just as the mist was rising and the sun was softly making its introduction to the day. Not many people are out so early on a Sunday morning and I enjoy a slower pace and opportunity to commune with my Heavenly Father about the beauty of His earth. When I'm outside all the inconsequential problems seem to dissipate.
My route takes me through the park. It must have been a busy weekend with people who also love nature, or else why would they have been out? Some must have loved it enough to stay through at least one diaper change - I know I saw the diaper left on the grass. Some must have loved it enough to picnic by the river - I know because I saw the fast food bags, napkins and cups strewn by the shore. Some must have loved it enough to take off their shoes and dip their toes in the refreshing water - I know, I saw their socks crumpled in the mud. Water bottles, cigarette butts, six pack holders, and on and on... They must have been busy because these people couldn't seem to make the trek of 10 to 20 steps to the nearest trash can.
My disappointment in my fellow man felt like that of the Indian in the 70s commercial - do you remember it? He's on his horse overlooking a littered valley, and he cries a tear. I didn't cry though, I just wanted to kick some butt!

I, too, love walking out right as the sun is rising. It's so quiet. It's even quieter during the winter before the sun rises because you don't have birds chirping. After a year of living on US 40, I understand your frustration about the trash. That's why I got Tyler a trash grabber for his birthday. It was the best gift I've ever gotten him (I think:)

I hear ya on this one! Here in Monroe, we have such a big problem with so much trash. People are so lazy and just don't care. It really saddens me. It is so bad here, that there have been companies who came to check our community out, thinking this would be a nice area to open up and create new jobs, but because of the trash, they have gotten right back on the plane and headed back home. Now that is just too bad...

I can't believe you found this picture of the Indian with the tear!

Muncie is seriously so beautiful and the area you walk is absolutely gorgeous. I don't understand why people are incapable of cleaning up after themselves. Does it stem from having to keep your room clean? Do people really just assume someone else will clean up behind them? It's so annoying and really gross. When we would camp my parents made sure we always left the campsite cleaner than when we found it. If that meant cleaning the site next to us, then so be it. Why can't people take responsibility for their own mess?

I feel your pain Kristie. It just makes me so sad to see all the trash laying around.

What gets me is when people say, "It's recyclable"...is that supposed to excuse the fact that the left paper on the ground will take a long time to decompose?

Let's not even talk about the alumninum cans and six-pack holders you mentioned. Many birds and other critters get those stuck on their bodies, getting injured or even worse.

So anyway, I shake my head and have a tear falling too, maybe we could start a "TRASH BRIGADE FOR GOD" :)
